The Book Thief is a magnificent story that tells of a young girl named Leslie who uses her love of books to connect with the people around her. Set in 1940’s Germany, it is a beautiful and dramatic tale in the perspective of Death.

I read this book recently, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was beautifully written and would have me laughing one moment, and crying the next. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves animals like myself, but the interesting thing about this book is that you don’t have to be a dog lover to enjoy it. Ultimately, it ended up being more about the relationships owners have with their pets, and the extraordinary power of love. Sophia Maggio, Grade 10
